How do the fascists prevent the outbreak of democracy in Moslem countries?

In Saudi Arabia, the monarchy has promoted fundamentalist Islam as a way of countering democracy.

In Indonesia, certain generals have organised Islamic militias as a way of countering democracy.

In the 1920s, the British helped set up the Moslem Brotherhood. The aim was to counter the forces of democracy.

According to the book Devil's Game: How the United States Helped Unleash Fundamentalist Islam, the original Moslem Brotherhood was an "unabashed British intelligence front."

The British used the Moslem Brotherhood to try to undermine Egypt's President Nasser.

In the 1980s, the USA and UK, together with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, built up the power of the mujahedeen in Afghanistan.

Hamas was formed, in 1987, from groups with links to the Moslem Brotherhood. Israel and the US and UK saw Hamas as a useful tool to weaken the secular party led by Yasser Arafat.

Martha Kessler, a senior analyst at the CIA, said: "We saw Israel cultivate Islam as a counterweight to Palestinian nationalism."
